The Swedish Army has awarded a contract to Harris Corporation to supply RF-7800S Personal Radios for its Inter/Intra Group Radio (IGR) programme.

The RF-7800S radios offer soldiers voice and wideband data communications in theatre. The radio weighs less than 600g to ensure portability in the field.

The radios feature a duplex voice capability that allows several soldiers to talk simultaneously, advanced waveform with the 350MHz to 450MHz frequency band and a range of more than 2km.

An integrated GPS receiver tracks the movements of each user and a high-speed USB interface facilitates direct connection of other C4 devices. Transmissions are secured by standard Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) or Citadel II digital encryption.

The first 900 radios are scheduled to be delivered this month.

The RF-7800S has been adopted in more than 20 countries.
