Defense Holdings has been awarded a five-year $9.8m small business innovative research contract, with an initial $715,000 delivery order to extend the development of its metal-fibre brushes to the US Army’s UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter de-icing systems.

Defense Holdings has teamed up with HiPerCon to fulfil the phase III IDIQ (indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity) research contract and develop the brushes that were originally invented for use in the US Navy nuclear submarines.

The metal-fibre brushes have thousands of hairline silver alloy fibres on their tips and are said to offer significant decrease in electrical noise and better service life.
