Northrop Grumman has successfully demonstrated the compatibility of the next-generation Advanced Extremely High Frequency (EHF) military communications satellites with user ground terminals using the Extended Data Rate (EDR) waveform and protocols.

Advanced EDF is a joint service satellite communications system that will provide global survivable, protected and assured communications for high-priority military ground, sea and air assets, Northrop says.

The XDR capability, with other technologies, will allow Advanced EHF satellites to provide ten times more communications capacity and six times higher channel rates than the Milstar system.

Northrop’s Space technology business is providing the communications system to Advanced EHF prime contractor Lockheed Martin.
