Lockheed Martin has won a $2m contract from the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop a prototype One Shot sniper system.
The new system will improve the abilities of the sniper under challenging conditions, especially cross winds.

With the system, the sniper will require one shot to carry out a task successfully.
Lockheed Martin’s One Shot program manager Ron Rex says crosswinds have long reduced the probability of snipers hitting a target, especially when wind speed ranges from five to ten miles per hour.
“The One Shot system will solve this problem, significantly increasing operational range and hit probability and giving our war-fighters a capability that is urgently needed today,” Rex says.
