The Indian Army has received shelters for use at high altitudes to protect soldiers from the extreme climatic conditions of the Himalayan region. The integrated thermally regulated shelters are equipped with integrated temperature regulators, biodigestors and air-monitoring systems.
Designed and developed by the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the shelters can endure seismic activities upto a level of zone five, wind velocities around 55m a second and sub-zero temperatures as low as -35°C.
The solar-powered shelter is also designed to monitor and maintain carbon dioxide levels within the shelter.
