The supplies have been donated to hospitals in ten provinces in the country.

Supplies being distributed include disposable gloves, masks and medical clothing. The supplies will include different types of face protection and tools, including infrared thermometers.

Delivered in conjunction with the US Embassy and Philippine Department of Health, the assistance will support frontline workers with PPE and other equipment in medical facilities in Luzon and Mindanao.

AFP Northern Luzon commander lieutenant general Ramiro Manuel Rey said: “These items will greatly benefit the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center in Bataan and Talon General Hospital in Tarlac City for a better Covid-19 response.”

Over the past 20 years, the US has provided $4.5bn to the Philippines, including in health assistance.

With this donation, the US Government has spent around $15.5m to assist the Philippines in its battle against the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Philippines Civil Military Support Element team leader captain Tim Johnson said: “With this effort, we are trying to do our part to provide the heroes of this fight, the medical professionals, with the necessary tools that they need to protect their fellow workers and citizens.”
