Comtech EF Data Corp has received an order to support US Army’s MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft system (UAS).
The engineering services order was placed by Hughes Network Systems in support of the Data Link Modernisation (DLM) contract.
Comtech EF Data is Arizona-based subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp and part of Comtech’s Commercial Solutions segment.
Under the $1.7m order, the company will provide new advanced satellite communications (SATCOM) systems for the UAS.
The company expects to receive additional orders in the future.
As part of the development and prototype phase, Comtech EF Data will provide services such as porting of waveforms to the airborne and ground-based satellite modems.

Earlier this year, Comtech EF Data secured an order from a major US Department of Defense (DoD) contractor for satellite modems.
As part of the order, the company will deliver the DMD2050E MIL-STD-188-165A/STANAG 4486 Edition 3 Compliant Universal Satellite Modem to support the US Army Project Manager (PM) Tactical Network.
