UK apparel industry IT recruitment activity drops 25.7% in September 2021

The UK’s apparel industry registered a 25.7% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 3.54% in September 2021 when compared with August 2021.

Out of the apparel industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.51% share in September 2021, recording a decrease of 1.46% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.01% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s apparel industry in September 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 70.53% in September 2021, registering a 56.62% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 9.6% share, a decrease of 43.14% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 9.27%, registering a 50% decline from August 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 4.64%, down 66.67% over the previous month.

Top five apparel companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 66.61% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s apparel industry during September 2021 over August 2021.

Amazon posted 92 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 21.05% over the previous month, followed by J Sainsbury with 38 jobs and a 91.65% drop. John Lewis Partnership with 24 IT jobs and ASOS with 19 jobs, recorded an 118.18% flat growth and a 280% flat growth, respectively, while Danaher recorded a decline of 6.25% with 15 job postings during September 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 73.84%, down by 51.52% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 15.89% share, registered a decline of 60.66% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 10.26% share, down 69.31% over August 2021.
