The top five companies accounted for 34% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) filed the most metaverse patents within the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 14 metaverse-related patents in the quarter, compared with 9 in the previous quarter. It was followed by State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance with 4 metaverse patent filings, RTX (4 filings), and Hanwha (3 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 45% share of total patent filings
The largest share of metaverse related patent filings in the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 45%, followed by Australia (6%) and China (2%). The share represented by the US was 6% lower than the 51% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
