Unmanned land vehicles for military operations
A large military operation in the development of an unmanned land vehicle needed a rugged, low power, high-density controller for the vehicle, as well as a comprehensive and flexible system to handle all I/O requirements.

The unit also needed to be flexible as depending on the end application of the unmanned land vehicle (ULV), therefore many different types of sensors and controls would be installed.
Finally, in order to preserve experience with other vehicles and to ensure fast and robust system operation, the unit must be based upon the Linux operating system.
UEIPAC programmable automation controller system
Our UEIPAC programmable automation controller system provides environmental (tested: from -40° to 85°C), and physical ruggedness (50G shock, 5G vibration) requirements and allows the installation of between six and 12 I/O boards depending on the chassis style.
It runs a standard Linux operating system and has the ability to be easily configured with a wide variety of analogue, digital, counter / timer, quadrature encoder, serial and global positioning system (GPS) interfaces.
The software is written on a standard Linux PC (or may be written in a Windows environment under Cygwin) using UEI’s powerful and yet simple UEIDAQ framework. The framework provides complete support for all common versions of Linux, as well as all Windows and Vista programming languages and applications.
Depending on the end application and the sensors required, the UEIPAC components used in the various systems include DNA-AI-207, DNA-A0-308, DNA-CT-601, DNA-QUAD-604, DNA-SL-501, DNA-GPS, and the DNA-DIO-404.
UEI DNA-MIL cube data acquisition for military specifications
The UEI DNA-MIL Cube is an advanced military-specified data acquisition and I/O platform housed in a compact 6.2in x 7.1in x 8.7in chassis. The DNA-MIL platform is 100% commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) based and supported by UEI’s large family of I/O boards.
The DNA-MIL is designed to meet MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 (including all power supply requirements) and supports virtually any input, sensor, and interface I/O.
Ruggedised chassis for application construction and reconfiguration
The ruggedised chassis is easily configured as a standalone I/O controller or embedded, programmed and hardened for integration with high-density, multifunction data acquisition systems. Its highly advanced architecture provides users with a simple and universal software application programme interface (API) to construct, add and reconfigure applications based upon the I/O layers.
The chassis can also run Simulink models for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and rapid prototyping while users remotely monitor and tune parameters, as well as enable all I/O connections through 38999-style round connectors. It also features built-in-testing and self-diagnostic capability for check status operation and efficient reliability.
