Ultralife Corporation manufactures battery and energy products for a wide range of high-energy, non-rechargeable and rechargeable power and charging systems used in both defence and commercial applications. Ultralife manufactures batteries using a variety of chemicals including lithium manganese dioxide, nickel metal hydride, lithium manganese oxide, lithium polymer and lithium thionyl chloride, among others. Some comprise the highest energy densities currently available.

As a market leader providing batteries for military applications, Ultralife also has a solid technical base in cell and battery designs. Our battery technology often provides turnkey solutions based on customer requirements and specifications. When necessary, we partner with other cell manufacturers to provide the optimum solution.

Storage and power system for military generators

Ultralife has introduced the GenSet Eliminator, an innovative storage and power system designed to reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs by 25% – 30% for defence and commercial applications.

The GenSet Eliminator provides energy storage capabilities to generators and renewable energy sources, thereby promoting optimum efficiencies through the continuous charging and discharging of Ultralife’s lithium-ion batteries incorporated into the system. The system is mobile, flexible and scalable from 10kWh – 50kWh of battery storage and will significantly reduce fuel consumption while enabling the primary generator or power source to be operated at 85% – 95% of its rated load capacity.

GenSet Eliminator is an innovative storage and power system designed to reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs by 25% - 30% for defence and commercial applications.
UBI-2590 (UBBL02) is ideal for portable electronics specially designed for military use because they offer high energy density, high capacity and long cycle life, with no memory effect.
The BA-5390A / U is used by military organisations to provide primary and back-up power for communications equipment, imaging devices and weapons systems.
URB0001 is a lithium-ion multi-kilowatt module, which features high energy density, wide operating temperature range for applications such as in-line power back-up and supplemental / reserve power.
The MRC-KT0002 charging kit includes a single tactical charger for XX90 batteries solar panel kit to provide unattended charging in diverse environments.

The switch between the primary energy source and battery power is seamless to the user and allows for silent and clean (zero emission) operation when the batteries are in use. The lithium-ion batteries allow for continuous monitoring, reduce battery weight by a factor of four to five if comparable lead acid batteries are used, and allow much higher operating temperatures of up to 140°F (60°C) without degradation.

The resulting benefits of lower fuel consumption, extended life expectancy and less maintenance to the primary power source and silent watch capability make the GenSet Eliminator ideal for military bases that generate their own electricity. Added benefits are the reduction of casualties, disaster relief by simplifying logistics and improving sustainability when accessibility is cut off.

Rechargeable batteries for portable electronics

The rechargeable 2590 family of batteries consists of the UBI-2590 – UBBL02 (NSN: 6140-01-553-3527), UBI-2590 SMBus – UBBL10 (NSN: 6140-01-554-2347), and the UBI-2590 high capacity SMBus – UBBL13. These batteries are ideal for portable electronics specially designed for military use because they offer high energy density, high capacity and long cycle life, with no memory effect.

The batteries operate over a wide temperature range and are ideal for rugged military use where equipment is required to operate in extreme conditions. The UBBL10 and UBBL13 batteries are offered with Ultralife’s SmartCircuit technology, which implements SMBus smart battery technology and provides functionality and performance not available from traditional batteries and chargers.

Non-rechargeable batteries for military communications equipment

Ultralife’s non-rechargeable BA-5390A / U – UB0023 (NSN: 6135-01-517-6060) battery has a state-of-charge indicator and 50% – 100% more run time than the BA-5590 version, allowing fewer batteries to be carried and managed. The BA-5390A / U is used by military organisations to provide both primary and back-up power for a wide range of communications equipment, imaging devices and weapons systems. It provides long storage life with virtually instant power when needed and surpasses strict military performance requirements.

Lithium-ion multi-kilowatt module battery

Ultralife’s URB0001 is a lithium-ion multi-kilowatt module. This battery features high energy density, wide operating temperature range, internal cell balancing, multiple safety devices / multi-level safety, lug connection and Form-C contact studs. Applications include in-line power back-up and supplemental / reserve power.

Custom charging solutions for military applications

Ultralife supplies a wide range of chargers and also has the ability to provide custom charging solutions to meet the needs of a particular application. The CH0003 (NSN: 3130-01-499-7305) is a self-contained battery charger / conditioner that charges up to six rechargeable XX90 batteries simultaneously, mounted in a ruggedised environmentally resistant case.

The CH0004 (6130-01-559-0124) has the same specifications in a two-bay version. The MRC-135A is a single tactical charger for XX90 batteries that can be used with the MRC-KT0002 solar panel kit to provide unattended charging in diverse environments.
