Cobham has added QinetiQ to its team to support the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Air Support to Defence Operational Training (ASDOT) programme.

Under the deal, QinetiQ will join other team members Draken International and 3SDL to develop new solutions for operational readiness training under the MoD programme.

Cobham has been engaged in providing operational readiness training in support of the UK MoD for the last 30 years.

QinetiQ chief executive officer Steve Wadey said: “QinetiQ is thrilled to have joined this strong team headed by Cobham for the ASDOT programme.

“Our value-added technologies and expertise in the synthetic, aerial target, operational training, test and safety assurance domains are a natural fit with the Cobham team, and we feel that we are best placed to deliver a long-term partnered approach together, led by UK industry, in collaboration with the UK MoD.”

With its new entry into the team, QinetiQ will be responsible for providing additional innovative synthetic and aerial target technology.

This would help further balance the capability of the Cobham team across live, virtual and constructive (LVC) scenarios.

As part of the ASDOT programme, Draken International is committed to delivering its leading fifth generational adversary air services, while 3SDL serves as the major provider of close air support and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) experimentation and emulation in the UK.

QinetiQ has expertise in test, evaluation and certification. Its addition creates a Cobham team that will be able to fully meet MoD requirements under the ASDOT programme.

Furthermore, the team also has the strength and depth to address the evolving LVC requirements of the department.

The ASDOT programme has been designed to meet the training requirement of UK air support across the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army and Joint Forces Commands from 2020.

The programme will gradually replace existing contracted and military service provision as these projects expire or reach their planned end of service date.
