BAE Systems has secured a four-year framework agreement to deliver artillery and armoured vehicle weapon system components to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The contract, awarded via Babcock Land Defence, is designed to maintain the operational readiness of the British Army’s 105mm Light Gun and other core artillery assets.

Under the new arrangement, BAE Systems will supply vital components that underpin the MoD’s land capabilities and ensure ongoing support for equipment including the Light Gun, widely recognised for its mobility and reliability on the battlefield.
The company stated that this agreement would help safeguard the availability of essential artillery systems as the British Army continues to rely on them for operational missions.

The framework agreement follows ongoing investment by BAE Systems in the UK’s artillery manufacturing sector, which includes restoration work on domestic production capacity and the supply of British-designed 105mm and 155mm barrels from Sheffield.
Such investments, according to the company, are aimed at strengthening domestic supply chains for key defence requirements.
In July this year, the MoD decided to pause the scheduled replacement of the Army’s L118 105mm Light Gun and L16 81mm mortar. Both systems remain in service and as previously indicated by the ministry, are currently planned to be retired by 2030.
