Thomas Global, which served as Prime System Integrator for the project, supplies both fixed and deployable simulator variants to support the training of Australian Army personnel operating the M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 Main Battle Tank fleet.

The trainers were provided progressively through to 2025, with the last acceptance activities and formal project closure taking place in the final quarter of that year, according to the company.

In September last year, the Australian Army received all deployable versions of the M1A2 Abrams Systems Enhancement Package version 3 (SEPv3) M1A2 ITT from Thomas Global Systems.

The M1A2 Abrams ITT programme under LAND 907 was initiated following the selection of Thomas Global Systems in 2022 to provide a solution supporting the acquisition of 75 M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 Main Battle Tanks.

The simulators are designed to improve operational preparedness while lessening the strain on actual vehicles and related sustainment resources.

Thomas Global Systems Simulation & Training Solutions chief operating officer and acting vice president & general manager Andrew Hutchinson said: “The Australian Army has been impressed with the training capability delivered by our Abrams Immersive Tactical Trainer, with overwhelmingly positive end user feedback supporting enhanced readiness.

“As the L907 program enters sustainment, the trainers are expected to surpass 2,500 additional training hours in 2026, highlighting the essential role of full‑crew, high‑fidelity simulation in preparing Land Forces for modern combat.”

The Abrams Immersive Tactical Trainer provides a combined platform for tactical crew, gunnery, and driver instruction. It is designed to support the training of M1A2 SEPv3 tank crews by facilitating full crew and mission rehearsal scenarios, while reducing the need for live-fire exercises.

According to Thomas Global, the system can be used independently, in multi-vehicle groupings, or integrated into larger networked training environments through an HLA/DIS gateway.
