Mistral and Uvision have completed the first Lot Acceptance Tests (LAT) for the HERO 120 loitering munition, a key milestone of the US Army’s precision strike and reconnaissance initiatives. 

The munition systems met all required criteria during the acceptance tests, Mistral said.

This test supports the US Army’s Lethal Unmanned System (LUS) programme within the Capability Portfolio Executive (CPE) Mission Autonomy, Precision Strike Reconnaissance System (PSRS). 

Under the LUS programme, Mistral and Uvision are working jointly to deliver the HERO 120, with Uvision acting as both design authority and a major partner in the system’s development, production, and delivery.  

The collaboration is focused on fielding a capability that provides soldiers with precision strike, reconnaissance, and lethal target engagement functions, tailored for use in complex operational environments. 

Mistral senior vice president Yoav Banai said: “Completing the first Lot Acceptance Tests is an important milestone for Mistral, Uvision, and the US Army.  

“The successful completion of all required acceptance test HERO 120 missions reflects the shared commitment of both companies to deliver reliable, effective, and mission-ready capability to our warfighters.”

The HERO 120 is designed as a mid-range loitering munition, weighing 24kg and carrying a 4.5kg warhead. It is capable of operating up to 60km from its launch point, with an endurance of up to 60 minutes on station.  

According to Uvision, the system is adaptable for integration with armoured vehicles, naval vessels, and rotary-wing platforms, as well as suitable for deployment by teams operating from concealed or stand-off positions. 

Further features include compatibility with a range of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and command and control (C2) networks.  

This enables the HERO 120 to rapidly transition from detection to strike, streamlining its integration into various force structures.  

The system’s design supports target observation, identification, tracking, and engagement, aiming to increase operational flexibility and responsiveness for soldiers in the field. 

Earlier this year, the US Army’s Program Executive Office Soldier also selected the HERO-90 loitering munition, developed by UVision and promoted in partnership with Mistral, for participation in the Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance (LASSO) programme.
