The US Army’s Program Executive Office Soldier has chosen the HERO-90 loitering munition, developed by UVision and promoted in partnership with Mistral, for participation in the Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance (LASSO) programme.
LASSO is an initiative of the US Army to provide Brigade Combat Teams with a portable, precision anti-armour solution that can be deployed rapidly by dismounted units.

The HERO-90 system allows a single operator to launch the munition within two minutes.
It features configurable warheads, including anti-armour options, secure beyond-line-of-sight communications, and the ability to abort or re-engage missions.
The solution is designed to produce precise effects against armoured threats using top-attack capabilities.
Mistral senior vice president Yoav Banai said: “Selection of HERO-90 reflects the Army’s focus on portability, lethality, and MOSA-ready integration. Together with UVision, Mistral will support PdM Soldier Precision Targeting Devices with a solution that aligns to Common Control and integrates seamlessly across the BCT kill chain.”

By GlobalDataHERO-90 is intended for infantry and tactical units operating in contested environments against a variety of targets such as armoured vehicles and fortified positions.
The munition is compatible with both dismounted troops and land vehicles, integrating into existing intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and command-and-control (C2) systems for rapid engagement.
According to information released by the companies, the HERO-90 is equipped with a warhead of up to 3kg, has a range of up to 45 kilometres, and can operate for as long as 40 minutes.

In October of last year, the US Army issued a multi-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract worth $982m under the Lethal Unmanned System (LUS) programme to acquire, deploy, train, and support the HERO 120 loitering munition system.
