The agreement, pending final approval from both companies’ boards, would establish the manufacturing entity in Spain.

Production will centre on EDGE’s knowledge in loitering munitions and smart weapons, with operations supporting manufacturing, assembly, and lifecycle services.

The planned factory for loitering munitions will be located in Villadangos de Páramo, León.

Indra intends to invest approximately €20m ($23.3m) into the facility, which is projected to create up to 200 jobs once operating at full capacity.

Additionally, the company plans to open a UAV micro-engine manufacturing facility in Valladolid, Spain.

The agreement was signed by EDGE Group managing director and CEO Hamad Al Marar and Indra Group CEO José Vicente de Los Mozos.

Among others present at the signing were Spain’s Secretary of State for Defence, Amparo Valcarcel, UAE Ambassador to Spain, H.E. Saleh Ahmad Salem Al Suwaidi, Spanish Ministry of Industry General Director of Industrial Programmes, Alberto Ruiz Rodríguez, EDGE Group chairman, H.E. Faisal Al Bannai, and Indra Group executive chairman, Ángel Escribano.

Indra and EDGE intend, through this initiative, to establish industrial capabilities in Europe that support both national and export requirements by integrating weapons technology with large-scale manufacturing and programme execution capacity.

EDGE Group managing director & CEO Hamad Al Marar said: “Establishing this joint venture with Indra in Spain marks a decisive step in EDGE’s expansion into Europe. By developing loitering munition capabilities in Spain, we are enabling in-country manufacturing and responding directly to the scale and urgency of European defence requirements, while building long term industrial capability with a trusted partner.”
