This transaction forms part of a wider framework arrangement involving Saab, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and Lithuania for Saab’s short-range air defence missile solution, RBS 70 NG.

Lithuania has operated Saab’s RBS 70 system since 2004 and also uses the vehicle-integrated mobile air defence solution MSHORAD, which incorporates the RBS 70 NG as a protective measure for mobile military units.

Saab business area Dynamics head Görgen Johansson said: “With this order, we continue our commitment to supporting the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ with our world-leading RBS 70 missiles. These form a key part of the nation’s air defence capability and contribute to keeping Lithuania’s airspace safe.”

Saab, based in Sweden, is involved in designing, manufacturing and maintaining systems related to aeronautics, weapons, command and control, sensors and underwater technology.

Last month, Saab announced plans to provide AT4 weapons and Carl-Gustaf ammunition to Lithuania after securing a contract worth Skr1.3bn. Deliveries for this order are planned between 2027 and 2029.

This arrangement is part of an existing framework agreement between the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and Saab, which permits Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia to acquire Carl-Gustaf M4 systems, related ammunition, and AT4 weapons.

The AT4 and Carl-Gustaf systems are designed for ground combat operations. AT4 is a disposable weapon and the Carl-Gustaf is serving as a man-portable, multi-role recoilless weapon.
