The French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) has ordered 40mm telescoped ammunition from artillery systems and ammunitions company KNDS France.

As per the contract, KNDS France will deliver 25,000 rounds, which will be outfitted on JAGUAR reconnaissance armoured vehicles and RAPIDFire turrets across all variants, starting next year.

The agreement stipulates the annual delivery of ammunition, starting with 18,000 training rounds, with potential increments reaching 30,000 in subsequent years. An initial batch of 8,000 combat rounds is part of the arrangement.

With this procurement, the already operational 40mm telescoped ammunition within the French Army marks a “new milestone”, said KNDS.

The contracts between DGA and KNDS France created a dual sourcing for critical components to enhance collaborative production capabilities between KNDS France and BAE Systems in the UK.

This dual sourcing initiative has been facilitated through the qualification of new suppliers in various French regions including Haute-Savoie, Hautes-Pyrénées, Cher, and Manche, thereby allowing for an increase in production capacity.

The 40mm telescoped technology has achieved operational status and is currently deployed in both land and naval systems.

These include the JAGUAR reconnaissance and combat armoured vehicle procured by the French and Belgian armies; the RAPIDFire turret already in service on the Jacques Chevallier replenishment vessel (BRF), with plans for future integration onto additional French Navy ships; the terrestrial variant of RAPIDFire that was exhibited for the first time at this year’s Paris Air Show.

In addition, the contract encompasses the serial production of the PPM-CHR (Multi-Purpose Timed Perforating Projectile) specifically designed for use with the RAPIDFire turret.
