This new programme of record aims to bolster the Danish Army’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. The systems will be included in the 1st Brigade.

Danish Ministry of Defence’s Materiel and Procurement Agency head lieutenant general Per Pugholm Olsen said: “Today we are signing the first order for new drones, but with this agreement we have ensured that we can acquire additional drones if the need arises – just as we are assured that the drones we acquire, also in the future, are at the forefront of technological development.”

The JUMP 20 system features vertical take-off and landing capabilities and offers more than 13 hours of endurance and can operate within a 185km range.

Independent of runways, the fixed-wing drone is compact, portable, and capable of autonomously launching and landing at speed without human intervention, making it suitable for various operations.

Equipped with a 30lb modular payload capacity, the JUMP 20 UAS is designed to be flexible and adaptable to changing concepts of operations and multi-domain mission requirements.

Its modular design will also allow the Danish Armed Forces to integrate new technologies.

AV Medium UAS vice-president and general manager Shane Hastings said: “JUMP 20 sets the standard for simplicity, modularity, and durability—critical attributes for reliable performance in the demanding Scandinavian terrain.

“With a combat-proven track record and over 300,000 operational flight hours, JUMP 20 stands as a best-in-class UAS, equipping the Danish Armed Forces with unmatched multi-mission capabilities to operate effectively in complex and austere environments.”

According to DALO, deliveries of the system will commence during this year.

This contract follows AeroVironment’s JUMP 20 system being chosen for the US Army’s Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System Programme Increment (Inc) 2 in 2023.

It has demonstrated the effectiveness of the Jump 20 during the earlier Inc 0 and 1 contracts, being the sole recipient of all increments awarded.
