Defence technology company QinetiQ has been awarded a contract to provide engineering and programme expertise to Defence Digital, a branch of the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).  

This collaboration is set to enhance the British Army’s tactical communications systems, a move that will bolster decision-making capabilities on the front line.

QinetiQ UK Intelligence chief executive James Willis said: “In this digital era, reliable and robust communications are the bedrock of an operationally effective fighting force.  

“As a trusted partner to the UK military we are delighted to continue to support development and delivery of this vitally important programme that enables our Armed Forces to defend our nation, safely and securely.” 

The three-year contract is a part of the Land Environment Tactical Communications and Information Systems (LETacCIS) Programme. 

It is valued at up to £150m ($195.77m), with an initial award of £39m.

The agreement includes the option to extend for up to two additional years.  

QinetiQ’s Team Advance will integrate with the MoD-led Delivery Team.  

Their role will encompass programme and project management to cost engineering and network security. 

Team Advance is a delivery team led by QinetiQ formed to implement the TacSys Resource Partner (TRP) project. Its members include Accenture, BMT, Eviden, and Roke. 

Defence Digital Tactical Systems Service executive head Jez Sharpe said: “We are delighted to be able award this contract to Team Advance who, we are confident, will deliver the expertise we need to take land tactical communications to the next stage.  

“We look forward to an enduring partnership as we bring capability to the hands of our front-line troops.” 

QinetiQ previously contributed to the BATCIS Private Sector Support contract. 

Alongside partners BMT, Roke, and Eviden, QinetiQ delivered services such as programme management, engineering, trials, and training. 

The latest announcement follows QinetiQ’s first quarter trading update for the financial year 2025.
