DRS Technologies has announced nine delivery orders valued at over $110m for spare components, repairs and programme services for mast-mounted sights (MMS) on the US Army’s OH-58D Kiowa Warrior armed reconnaissance helicopters.

The work will be carried out by the Melbourne, Florida, operation of the DRS reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition (RSTA) business group.

Aviation and depot services for RSTA vice president Bob Klaver said that thanks to continuing performance enhancement and obsolescence mitigation, the Kiowa Warrior remains a vital weapon for the US Army.

“Our MMS electro-optical infrared technology is a major reason why this observation helicopter is an asset. It allows our warfighters to see in varying visibility conditions to achieve critical operational advantages – including advantages in acquiring, identifying and engaging targets over great distances,” said Klaver.

Included are new spare MMS components and depot-level repair, as well as on-site field service and forward repair activities provided directly by DRS field-service personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations globally. In addition, the orders cover all the work needed to support these activities, from programme management and engineering to production control and logistics.

The orders are part of the US Army’s Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ) ‘spares, repairs and services’ contract with a maximum potential value of $913m awarded last December.
