The UK Army’s first infantry soldiers will begin training for the military operations in Afghanistan on the new training facilities at Stanford Training Area (STANTA) in Norfolk.

The commander in chief of land forces General Sir David Richards opened these facilities on 30 April.

The new training campus includes a rural village and an urban complex designed by the Operational Training Advisory Group (OPTAG) to provide the soldiers with a live model for current battle operations.

Soldiers from the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards will participate in a series of training exercises, including shuras, countering IED threats and security framework patrolling on 10 June.
