The satellite ground terminal arm of General Dynamics has been contracted to modernise the WIN-T (warfighter information network-tactical) programme, which includes the US military’s satellite communication system.

The $119m contract to General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies is for support services and new earth terminals that brings the total value of the project to $378m for 956 satellite transportable terminals (STTs) and 17 unit hub SATCOM trucks (UHSTs).

According to the new contract, GD SATCOM Technologies will supply 293 STTs, six UHSTs, and 534 Ka-band upgrade kits and spares.

The cutting-edge STT terminals will allow network operation over Ku or Ka-band satellite frequencies and more modern capacity.

Both the STTs and UHSTs are interoperable with SATCOM units currently being used by the US Army.
