The US Army has approved a new biological analysis kit to replace redundant kits, reduce costs and drive efficiency through logistics in its military operations.

Called the platinum path extraction kit (PPEK), it works with the joint biological agent identification and diagnostic system (JBAIDS) and will be deployed as part of the biological pathogen detection programme.

Idaho Technology says the system offers vast improvements and efficiencies over previous sample preparation methods and results in a clean sample, which is ready for analysis in under 30 minutes.

The kit will cut annual extraction kit costs by 42%, according to the company.
