Raytheon has performed the first compatibility test of the lower-cost and easier-to-assemble Excalibur Ib projectiles with the Swedish Archer gun system.
Raytheon says the test proved the second Excalibur’s ability for controlled flight and safe muzzle exit.
Raytheon’s Excalibur Ib has a titanium base, uses fewer parts and needs simpler manufacturing than the model it was based on (Ia), resulting in improved weapon system performance and lower costs to deliver precision projectiles.
Excalibur Ib will reach full production in 2014.
