Russia and China will conduct a joint military exercise on 22–26 July 2009 to enhance cooperation between the two nations.

Russian deputy army chief Lieutenant General Sergei Antonov said that the military authorities of the countries had agreed for 1,300 soldiers from each side to participate in the joint mission.

A total of 20 Russian war planes will take part in the exercise, Antonov said.

The Peace Mission 2009 is a five-day exercise which will happen on both countries’ territories and focus on anti-terrorism.

The nations held joint exercises in 2005 and 2007 under the aegis of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization consisting of China, Russia and four Central Asian states.
