The US Army has awarded a $100m contract to DRS Technologies to manufacture 270 M1000 Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) trailers.
The M1000 HET is used to transport the M1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks over primary and secondary roads, or rough terrain. It can carry all types of tracked and wheeled vehicles, containers and large bulk cargo weighing as much as 80t.

The Army’s office of Program Manager, Heavy Tactical Vehicles at the TACOM Lifecycle Management Command has awarded the follow-on production contract.
The M1000 HET trailer work will be performed at DRS Sustainment Systems division, heavy manufacturing facility in West Plains, Missouri. The initial production of six trailers were delivered in June 2009 for tests and evaluation.
After this order, DRS Technologies will have manufactured more than 2,600 HET trailers for the US Army.
