The UK’s Ministry of Defence has contracted Saab to deliver training simulation systems for the army’s training exercises in Kenya in a deal worth between 250 and 300 million Kenyan shillings.

Saab will provide managed training and technical support services that consists of a battle group-sized deployable tactical engagement simulation (DTES), including full technical support and training until 2011.

The DTES system supports up to 1,500 players and contains a PNC (portable network controller), PBS (portable base station) and CCC (command and control console) for configuration and monitoring of the exercise, PBS AK (portable base station antenna kit) and 21m mast.

Saab has been working with the British Defence Ministry, training British troops in Belize and Kenya since 2007 .
