The US Army has awarded two contracts totalling $2bn to BAE Systems for infrared technology systems.

Under the first $1.94bn contract, the company will provide driver’s vision enhancers (DVE) designed to increase night vision capabilities for up to 17 types of military vehicles.

The second contract worth $347m is for laser target locator modules (LTLM), small held-held devices capable of finding objects on battlefields day and night and in all weather situations.

The US Army has placed an initial order for 1,990 LTLM and 338 DVE systems.

The majority of the work on the five-year contract will be carried out in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
