The US Army has awarded a $13.3m contract to General Dynamics Corporation to supply non-lethal devices to immobilise vehicles.

Non-lethal weapons will be used by military troops to apply minimum force for military operations other than war such as crowd control and area security at key facilities around the globe.

The devices are specifically designed to temporarily mark, incapacitate or drive people away from an area and will aid military personnel in situations such as hostage rescue, capture of criminals or terrorists, or control of other adversarial persons.

Work under the contract will be carried out in Washington and is expected to be complete by 10 September 2014.
