Raytheon has unveiled a third-generation electro-optical / infrared (EO/IR) mast-mounted system (MMS) to improve the surveillance and targeting capabilities of combat vehicles.

Raytheon along with Lockheed Martin fitted the MMS on a new General Dynamics Land Systems wheeled combat vehicle demonstrator, which also included an optimised work station for improved situational awareness and joint, multimission support.

Raytheon Network-Centric Systems Combat Systems vice-president Glynn Raymer said the company also incorporated networking capability and architecture and a common display to support incremental modernisation across a number of platforms.

“Raytheon’s mast-mounted system leverages investments and lessons learned from past efforts to provide safe and responsive under-armour on-the-move reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition capabilities,” he said.

The new MMS also leverages off the army’s third-generation EO/IR technology to provide greater resolution and performance at extended ranges, day or night, in all types of weather and during harsh battlefield conditions.

The system can be mounted on a 5m telescopic mast on both Stryker reconnaissance and fire support mission role variants, and can be adapted to all other ground combat vehicles including the MRAP variants.
