The French Army is planning to purchase the Javelin anti-tank missile, a US-made man-portable anti-tank guided missile.

A group of delegates from the French Army and its ordnance procurement agency DGA will visit the Lockheed Martin-Raytheon joint venture, which builds the Javelin, to negotiate the purchase of the infantry weapon under a US foreign military sale.

It is believed that France is likely to propose a €70m purchase of 300 missiles and 50 to 60 launchers.

Talks between the nations will also clearly define the cost of spare parts, training rounds, training courses, delivery dates, documentation and other details.

Javelin is equipped with an imaging infrared (I2R) system and a fire-and-forget guided missile with a range of approximately 2,500m.
