The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has placed an order to acquire next generation light anti-tank weapons (NLAW).
Designated as RB 57 by the Swedish forces, the shoulder-launched weapon system will be supplied by defence contractor Saab.

The company did not disclose the number of NLAWs it will provide under the contract, which is part of a framework agreement with FMV.
FMV operational area army head Jonas Lotsne said: “This has been made possible through a framework agreement and international cooperation. It is a good example of how we can work in the future to increase the pace of acquisitions and deliveries to the Armed Forces.”
The order is worth approximately Skr900m ($87.64m) and the anti-tank missile systems will be delivered between 2024 and 2026.
It is the result of negotiations held by FMV with the contractor during the second half of 2022.

NLAW is designed to allow a soldier to engage tanks and armoured vehicles using top attack/overfly top attack/direct attack modes at ranges between 20m and 800m.
The FMV order follows the contract signed by Saab with the UK Ministry of Defence last week for the supply of several units of the same weapon system.
