Rheinmetall has signed a framework agreement with the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) to supply more than 600,000 rounds of 30mm ammunition.
The estimated value of this deal is approximately $608.77m (€576m). The ammunition is for the service’s Puma infantry fighting vehicle (IFV).

The latest signing comes after the German Parliament’s budget committee approved a bill on 30 November for the associated comprehensive procurement.
As part of the contract, the company will deliver DM21 30mm x 173 medium-calibre ammunition for the German Puma IFV.
The initial delivery of nearly 25,000 rounds of DM21 ammunition is expected to take place before the current year’s end.
According to Rheinmetall, the German Armed Forces is procuring the cannon ammunition to ensure adequate operational supply can be sustained to support the Nato Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF).

The German Army’s Puma infantry vehicle is equipped with a Rheinmetall-built MK30-2/airburst munition (ABM) automatic cannon, which is a combat-proven weapon system.
The MK30-2/ABM provides a high rate of fire, combined with a maximum operating radius of over 2,000m.
The weapon system is capable of effectively countering targets on ground, in the air, and at sea. It is also the main armament equipped with the German Puma IFVs.
Rheinmetall offers two different types of 30mm x 173 calibre ammunition, including Kinetic Energy Time Fuse (KE-TF) DM21, and KE DM33, for the Puma vehicles. Both types comply with the latest military standards.
In 2017, Rheinmetall received a contract to deliver new turret-independent secondary weapon systems and other related military equipment for the German Puma IFVs.
