Elbit Systems and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) have established a new concept, called Euro-Plus, as part of their existing strategic partnership for the European rocket artillery system.

Earlier this year, Elbit Systems Deutschland and Elbit Systems Land signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with KMW to support the capability extension and modernisation of the multiple launch rocket system (MLRS / MARS II).

The strategic cooperation involved leveraging Elbit Systems’ modern effector portfolio to meet the requirements of MLRS operators to transform the extended range rockets into a new training ammunition, allowing the user to ‘train as you fight’ on national proving grounds.

The new concept has been introduced to meet this demand and provide the European long-range rocket artillery system as a successor to the MLRS.

The companies have already offered Euro-PULS to the first European customers.

Elbit System Land general manager Yehuda (Udi) Vered said: “I am confident that Euro-PULS will provide effective and timely solutions for both operational and industrial needs of European countries.

‘I am encouraged by the level of interest this initiative is already drawing from European and Nato countries.”

The Euro-PULS system is based on Elbit Systems’ multi-purpose universal launching system (PULS) and a variety of precision guided munitions.

Euro-PULS will leverage KMW’s capabilities in developing and optimising rocket artillery systems to comply with European standards that will further support the integration of new systems as per the users’ needs.

This will support the companies’ initiative to facilitate the production of future rocket artillery systems in Europe.

KMW Management Board chairman Ralf Ketzel said: “In this partnership, we see a chance to underline the potential of our artillery capabilities.

“The potential opportunities allow KMW to become one of the most modern system houses for rocket artillery.”
