The US Army has awarded a contract to CounterBalance Corporation to provide upper rear door torsion bars for the army’s M1117 armoured security vehicles (ASV).

The CounterBalance torsion bars are specifically designed to lift the upper rear door in military vehicles for soldiers to use as an additional escape point.

CounterBalance president Tim Howard said that vehicle doors lift upwards and weigh over 100lb.

“They are extremely heavy. The counterbalance alleviates the weight of the door so soldiers can exit the vehicle quickly,” he said.

Rear doors allow the soldiers to quickly evacuate the armoured tanks when the side doors are blocked during combat operations.

The M1117 ASV is a 4×4 wheeled vehicle that protects soldiers against small arms fire, overhead artillery fragmentations and under-wheel and under-hull mine blasts.
