The 35lb 310 SUGV system is a smaller and lighter version of the combat-proven PackBot and is ideal for a range of missions that include explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), route clearance and reconnaissance.

SUGV is designed to provide real-time awareness of critical situations to warfighters and aids in mission completion from safe stand-off distances.

Boeing, the prime contractor, will provide programme management, contracts, government-test support and quality-control support while iRobot will provide engineering, government-test support, manufacturing, training and logistics services.

iRobot government and industrial robots division president Joe Dyer said the SUGV could be easily and quickly deployed by warfighters in crucial and challenging environments such as Afghanistan.
