Lockheed has delivered TOPSCENE, a mission planning and rehearsal software package, to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to support operations in Afghanistan.
The TOPSCENE tactical terrain visualisation system is designed to convert 2D data from satellites and other sources into 3D battlefield visualisation scenarios including fly through and walk through.

The system’s ability to stop, scale, slew and rotate the image enables the warfighter to study the mission-operating environment in depth before actually entering a hostile area.
The system also provides photo-based imagery, 3D terrain and culture, and sensor simulation, for a high-fidelity situational awareness in the tactical mission operating environment over large terrain databases.
Lockheed Business Development director Will Shores said more than 3,500 TOPSCENE systems were deployed worldwide and UK helicopter forces based at RAF Odiham would use the system.
