Taiwan’s missile defence shield is expected to be ready by next year after the purchase of TWD300bn ($9.3bn) of advanced weapons from the US.
The long-range early warning radar system worth TWD40bn ($1.3bn) would help the Taiwan military in detecting and tracking incoming ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.
The system includes six batteries of Patriot III missiles, which form the backbone of the system, and tactical ballistic missiles, according to Agence France-Presse.
The People’s Liberation Army currently has more than 1,600 missiles aimed at Taiwan, according to military experts.
