Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) has delivered the first Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) to the US Army.
The air and missile defence radar system was moved to the US Army’s White Sands Missile Range.

The LTAMDS will now undergo a series of tests to demonstrate its performance and functionality in an operational environment.
Raytheon is scheduled to deliver six radars this year to the US Army.
LTAMDS is a 360°, active electronically scanned array radar designed to improve capabilities against advanced threats.
The system is powered by RMD-manufactured Gallium Nitride, which increases the radar’s signal strength and sensitivity.

RMD Land Warfare & Air Defense business president Tom Laliberty said: “Together with the Army, we set out to build a radar that could detect and defend against complex and evolving threats while reducing the workload on operators, and we’ve done it with LTAMDS.
“LTAMDS provides dramatically more performance against the range of threats, from manned and unmanned aircraft to cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. Air defence forces around the world are taking notice of LTAMDS, with over a dozen countries showing formal interest in acquiring the radar.”
LTAMDS is the first sensor in Raytheon’s family of radars called GhostEye.
These sensors are designed to identify potential threats at greater distances and travelling at higher velocities.
