The Russian Armed Forces will receive more than 1,300 types of weaponry by 2020 as part of a draft arms procurement programme, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said.

“We will need to set up new, or expand the existing, production lines to manufacture 220 of the new types of weaponry,” he added.

Russia has allocated more than R20tn ($640.7bn) for weapons procurement, which is three times more than the existing 2007-2015 programme, according to RIA Novosti.

The new programme, expected to be adopted by the year end, will include annual upgrades to 11% of military equipment and will allow the nation to increase the share of modern weaponry to 70% by 2020.
