The Indian Army has taken the delivery of four indigenously designed and developed “Nishant” unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

“Nishant has successfully completed the series of confirmatory trials conducted by the Indian Army at Chandan Range in Pokharan recently before the army took delivery of a set of four UAVs together with ground systems,” DRDO officials said.

The UAV can be launched from a hydro pneumatic launcher without the need of a runway and is suitable for operations that include both during wartime and counter insurgency operations.

The vehicle can also be used for battlefield reconnaissance in both day and night, surveillance, target tracking and correction of artillery fire as well as anti-insurgency operations.
