The US Army has placed safety restrictions on its new T-11 advanced tactical parachute system and has not recommended it for operational use until additional tests are completed by the Airborne Test Board.

The officials at the Pathfinder School of Fort Benning, Georgia, US, were not convinced with the published wind drift offset factors for the parachute calculated by the air force.

US Army Soldier protection and individual equipment programme manager Colonel William Cole said, “PEO Soldier will support the Maneuver Center of Excellence … in conducting tests to either confirm the air force’s calculated factors or develop new wind drift offset factors for the T-11.”

The parachute will be used to conduct single-ship or multiship airborne operations.

The Army Times has reported army officials as saying that the T-11 is expected to replace all conventional parachutes in about five years.
