This order makes the Canadian Armed Forces the first international customer of the radio.

L3Harris Tactical Communications president Bryant Henson said: “The RF-9820S delivers the communications flexibility and interoperability warfighters require to face the multi-domain challenges of today’s battlespace.

“This single-channel radio scales to current and emerging threats and enables direct interoperability with joint and coalition forces while providing the ability to spread farther across areas of engagement and share situational awareness information across the echelons.”

It follows an award to the company by the Canadian Government for 1,250 radios and accessories in August this year. It also includes options to purchase additional radios.

The CAF inventory already includes combat-proven L3Harris tactical radios.

Under Canada’s Integrated soldier system project, the CAF has chosen the AN/PRC-117G and AN/PRC-163 as the Leader Radio.

Small, light and easy to use, the latest addition to L3Harris’ Falcon family of radios incorporates a simple user interface and enhances troop agility.

It provides more than 20 hours of ‘continuous and reliable voice’ and data communications that help troops stay connected.

Introduced during AUSA Now 2020, the product was developed to fulfil the US Army’s requirement for a single-channel wideband Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) radio.

Late last month, L3Harris reported a 5% drop in revenue in Q3-2021 as operations suffered due to supply chain issues.
