DRS’s reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition (RSTA) group has been awarded a contract to qualify and produce the small tactical optical rifle-mounted micro-laser range finder (STORM-mLRF).
The five-year $514.3m indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract was awarded by the US Army Contracting Command.

The STORM sight integrates a laser range finder with a digital compass and a processor for computing and displaying target data, an infrared aiming laser, and a visible pointer and illuminator.
The sight also combines the multiple integrated laser engagement system (MILES) to simulate tactical engagement in training exercises.
The system has been designed to operate on M16A4, M4, M107 and M110 rifles as well as on the Stryker remote weapon station and the common remotely operated weapon station (CROWS II).
As per the contract, the company will deliver between 150 and 32,000 rifle mounted micro-laser range finders to the US Army.
