Lockheed Martin has been awarded a follow-on production contract by the US Army for the combat-proven modernised target acquisition designation sight / pilot night vision sensor (M-TADS/PNVS), also known as Arrowhead.

Under the $60m lot 8 base contract, the company will provide 23 Arrowhead kits for the National Guard, US Government, and foreign military sales (FMS) spares and support.

The contract also includes options for up to 46 systems and is estimated to be worth $290m if all options are exercised.

US Army Apache sensors product manager Lieutenant Colonel Steve Van Riper said, “These Arrowhead systems will provide AH-64D aviators with a combat-proven sensor capability required to support our soldiers and international allies around the world.”

The Arrowhead kit upgrades Apache’s infrared sensors and associated electronics and provides pilots with long-range, electro-optical precision engagement and pilotage capabilities under all-weather conditions.

The contract extends production for the base requirements to August 2013, and if all options are awarded it can be extended until January 2015.
