The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) has awarded a fixed-price contract to Raytheon to supply its PhantomIRxr thermal biocular systems.
Under the $19.9m contract, including options, the FDF will also receive systems and spares, and a maintenance package.

The PhantomIRxr system, designated AN/PAS-28, is a light-weight, rugged man-portable thermal binocular that weighs less than 3.6lb with batteries.
The system features an integrated image / video-capture capability and a laser marker, and uses uncooled thermal imaging technology.
The system functions as a surveillance and targeting system and also allows users to conduct search and high precision targeting even through darkness, smoke and dust.
Work on the contract will be carried out at the company’s network-centric systems (NCS) facility in Texas, US, with deliveries to begin in 2011 and run through 2014.
