Nammo has received a contract from the Japanese MoD (MoDJ) for the demilitarisation of its self-defence forces stock of cluster munitions.

The contract follows the Oslo Convention and the Ban on Cluster Munitions, signed by Japan along with 94 other nations in Oslo in December 2008 to stop the usage development, production, acquisition and stockpiling, as well as the export and import, of cluster munitions.

Under the contract, Nammo will demilitarise the multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) M26 system, CBU-87/B cluster bombs and 155mm artillery cargo rounds.

The disposal of the munitions will be conducted at the company’s demil facility in Norway and Germany, and is scheduled to be completed by February 2015.
