Lockheed Martin has been selected by the US Army to maintain, operate and sustain its Persistent Threat Detection System (PTDS).
The tethered aerostat-based PTDS is equipped with multimission sensors, used to provide 360° detection, surveillance, monitoring and force protection in support of the US military and its allies.

PTDS is a combat-proven system providing eyes-on-target and round-the-clock real-time situational awareness for war-fighters, and has been used by the US Army since 2004.
Lockheed Martin IS&GS-Defense C4ISR Systems vice-president Jim Quinn said: "The availability of timely intelligence is vital to protecting deployed personnel and high-value assets."
The contract is valued at $383m.
